The truth about resentment and how it might be holding you back.
Think of all of the resentments you’ve picked up throughout your life, going back to your childhood. Before long, as if you were putting them in a backpack to carry with you every day, those resentments will bog you down and get in the way of the one thing you want most in life: a deep and loving connection with yourself and others.
I recently worked with a client who was struggling with this. He was suffering from a lot of health issues, including inflammation, stress, migraines, and not being able to sleep. There was chaos with his family, and he was at his wit’s end. Through our work together, we identified a list of resentments that he had been holding on to throughout his life. He had resentment toward his mom, dad, and brothers because of the abuse and trauma he experienced.
“Eliminating resentment can help you reach maximum success, significance, and fulfillment.”
To help with all this weight, I told Darren: The things that happened to him are not his responsibility, but his healing is—no more playing the victim and blaming others. Then, it was like an energetic cord that he had been holding on to his whole life was finally broken. He was able to release and let go of that pain.
We put pen to paper and worked through those resentments one by one, journaling and working through his pain and suffering so he could finally be free from it. Through our work together, Darren’s health issues went away. The courage and willingness he showed allowed him to break the generational cycles of abuse, trauma, shame, and addiction from the men in his life. He was able to create a life of maximum success, significance, and fulfillment for himself and his family.
